Student Award and Scholarship Opportunities

Fisher Parker Travel Award

Application: Not available at this time

This travel award is offered to HSS majors who wish to pursue internships or coursework for class credit outside of the greater Charleston metro area, including study abroad.

Requirements

  • Students must be a School of Humanities and Social Sciences major
  • Students should demonstrate through their application and cover letter that financial support is critical to making the internship or travel opportunity possible.
  • Internships/coursework may be for fall, or summer semesters.
  • Students will be enrolled in the College of Charleston during their internship or study abroad so that they receive credit hours.

Preferences

  • 3.0 G.P.A. is preferred
  • Students who are employed, thereby necessitating an award to help cover time away from work to intern.

The Jordan Rively Scholarship

This scholarship is in memory of Joe Rively's grandparents for funding his College of Charleston education. It will be awarded to one student annually in the amount of $2500.

Requirements

  • Student must be pursuing a B.A. within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Student must exhibit financial need

Preference

  • Political science majors

Internship Award

ApplicationNot available at this time.

Two awards of $1000 each are available to third-year students (57+ earned hours) majoring within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Qualified applicants will maintain at least a 2.8 overall GPA with a record of success in their academic and professional lives. Preference given to those with financial need. Students must be enrolled in a summer HSS course for the internship. This course must be for academic credit. In addition to this online application, students applying for this scholarship are encouraged to send a letter of recommendation from a faculty member to monkk@cofc.edu.  Recommendations from employers, supervisors, and community partners are also welcome.

Marvell Adams Jr. Leadership in Action Award

This award was established to support students exhibiting leadership in action at the College of Charleston. The purpose of the award is to help develop and enhance the recipient's leadership skills. An amount of $2500 will be given to one student annually. 

Requirements

  • Student must exhibit financial need
  • Student must be serving in a leadership role on campus
  • Student must be in good academic standing and majoring within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Preference

  • First generation college student

Study Abroad Award

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to offer a competitive scholarship to students who will enroll in one of the summer College of Charleston Study Abroad programs found here: http://international.cofc.edu/study-abroad/cofcsummer.php

A total of $4000 will be distributed this year to students majoring in HSS. 

Student Travel Award

Application: Not available at this time.

This award is offered to both graduate and undergraduate students majoring in a degree program in HSS. The travel awards are intended to supplement funding acquired through other sources at the College of Charleston. The awards will be limited to $500.

W.N. Looper Award

Application: Not available at this time. 

The W.N. Looper Award is named in memory of W.N. Looper, who attended the College of Charleston in the 1940s. Mr. Looper was a decorated veteran of World War II and became an educator, coach, and mentor. The award was established to provide financial support for College of Charleston students majoring in either communication or political science who complete a summer internship on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. The award may be used to support the student's living expenses during their time in Washington. A total of $3,000 will be awarded to one student. 

Requirements

  • Be majoring in communication or political science
  • Have financial need according to the College's Office of Financial Assistance and Veterans Affairs
  • Be a resident of South Carolina

Preference

Students who have submitted applications to internship programs or have been accepted into an internship program.
